On a four stroke sand and dirt that gets by the filter will quickly wear out your expensive valve train and cause hard starting and poor performance. So I think we can all agree a clean air intake system is the only way to go. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe new KTM’s and Husqvarna’s have one of the most innovative and easiest air filter systems in the industry today with their easy access side panel and tool-less removal they have made air filter maintenance much easier to perform. There is however one issue we have found with the air filter cage on these bikes. All current KTM and Husqvarna air filter cages have an X shaped rough top or tip at the center section that can without warning rip a hole right through your air filter. The plastic tip presses right against the center of your filter. Anyone that has installed a filter onto one of these cages can tell you it’s a tight fit and you can easily see how damage can be done to the inside of the foam filter without you even noticing. We even included a nice knurled tip and an O ring to seal the pocket from dirt and water. Up until now there was no way to easily turn your 2009-2023 KTM\/Husqvarna 50 into a 60cc big bore. We all remember the 60cc kits for the old style motor but they didn’t work in the 2009 and newer motors. It was possible to do the conversion but that involved splitting the cases and doing case modifications. The new Nihilo \/ Wiseco piston kit is sized perfectly and will fit right in without cutting the cases. You will need Nihilo to bore and re-chrome your cylinder to the new 43.5mm size but once that's done it’s a simple matter of installing the new top end kit like you would a stock piston. Lots of riders have had trouble with the push button safety caps that came on all 2008-2025 KTM's this cap eliminates the push feature making it easier to remove on some models. To install simply unscrew the orange portion from the bottom of your stock cap and remove it from the black plastic top. Take out the rubber gasket and ball and discard the old screws and top then re-install those parts onto the new Nihilo Cap. The gasket and ball fit the new cap perfectly giving you the factory seal and operation. Then you just install the orange screw portion with the three new Allen head screws provided and you are done. Same head used by top KTM riders all over the country: Jordan Bailey, Brock Papi, Challen Tennant, Enzo Lopes, Mitchell Falk, Ciaran Naran, Conner Mullenix, and Parker Mashburn. Typically head stays are used to improve handling of the motorcycle and they are not intended to hold the motor in place like motor mounts do. Unfortunately with some of the new bikes the distance between the frame at the swing arm pivot is a little too wide and the motor does not get tightened enough at that point. In past years the old frame would flex a little and allow the swing arm pivot bolt to tighten against the swing arm and motor. The new frame is more rigid and even when torqued to the factory spec does not fit tight enough to hold the motor in place. Now keep in mind we are talking about very small tolerances but at that point on the motorcycle it is critical because there is a lot of flex and stress, remember the swing arm is translating all the force of the back wheel to that pivot point. If the motor is not being squeezed tight at that location and is allowed to move eventually it will wear itself against the swing arm bushings. This causes the motor to become even more loose then the motor starts hanging off the head stays causing much more stress than it was designed to handle. When the motor is being held properly with all the mounting locations, there is almost no stress at the head stays which are only there to manage flex. The way to fix this problem is to first carefully measure the distance between the frame at the point where the swing arm attaches. Next measure the two swing arm bushings and the width of the motor at the point that the swing arm bolt goes through. Now add those numbers up and compare it to the distance between the frame at that point. You will probably find that there is a .030” to .050” difference. It is important to shim that out so the motor and swing arm will fit very tight against each other. One of the big benefits of making this adjustment and fixing this problem is that the bike will handle better and will not vibrate as much as it does now.
