Custom GASGAS Bike Build: Kelana Humphrey
When we first met Kelana and his dad Dustin, we immediately knew we just had to work with them and build two of the sickest bikes anyone has ever seen. Kelana is a great kid and a very talented rider and racer, so the bikes had to be both functional and trick looking.
The game plan was to use the new Gas Gas bikes as the platform and build two, a modified 85 and a 112 supermini. These would be the bikes Kelana would be racing at all the Nationals throughout the year, so they had to be fast and built to custom-tailored to the rider. Both bikes got completely torn down, engine and all. The Mod 85 would have a Blacked out motor and the 112 Super Mini would be Red. Both frames were powder coated gloss black and swing arms were done in a matt black finish. Custom Graphics by MotoKutz with a custom seat that matched the lines of the design topped off the Red Gas Gas plastics.
Being a collaboration between WMR Competition Performance and Nihilo Concepts demanded that the motors would be completely built out with lots of trick Nihilo parts and WMR Performance magic. We can’t tell you everything we did to the motors but Ceramic bearings, porting, polished internals, flat toped pistons and Vortex Ignitions were just a few of the keys to the motors vicious power delivery. Of course, FMF provides the best pipe and silencer combo in the industry for both bikes and it’s safe to say these bikes perform at the highest level in their class. Dubya delivered some of the best-looking wheels we have ever done, polished nickel hubs lased to black rims with black spokes and nipples, so sick! Dunlop supplied the tires because there is no better tire for the serious racer.
The bikes both took advantage of all the Nihilo Concepts parts that were available, both internal and external, including, Custom engine covers, internal clutch parts, and high flow water pump impeller and covers. One off Red carbon Fiber skid plate, brake and Clutch master cylinder covers, and silencer tip really added the custom touch to the bikes. The Super Mini got a set of one piece Titanium foot pegs just like the ones Cooper Webb runs but a little taller to fit Kelana perfectly. The 85 received a set of weld on extensions with aggressive teeth. There are so many Nihilo parts on these bikes it’s hard to keep track of them all, red fuel line, custom Kelana Grip tape, billet gas cap, Air valve caps, guards and rim lock nuts, brake tip, Chain blocks, Clutch and brake caps, and even a new Front brake and Clutch perch clamp that is wider and stronger than the stock piece.
WMR is an authorized WP Suspension Service Center, so the suspension was not left alone. The fork shoes were anodized black and the upper tubes. The lowers were DLC coated for added slip and smooth action and the forks were then custom re-valved and re-sprung for Kelana. The forks slid into a set of custom Red anodized Triple Clamps to finish off the front end. The same treatment was given to the shock with DLC coated shock shaft and black anodized bladder.
There were lots of additional little things like custom laser engraved parts and other small details, take a few minutes to look through the gallery I think you will see new stuff every time.
